Work

When people ask me what I do for a living, I always try to answer in words that actually make sense to the person asking me. When meeting a total stranger I usually say something like “I’m a freelance ICT consultant”, or I’ll even start off by saying I’m a freelancer – period.

When I know I’m dealing with someone who knows his way in the ICT business, I know it’s safe to say what I think covers it best: “a Front-end Web developer”. I design and develop websites, webshops and other webbased applications.

In the old days (let’s say 5 years ago), this meant that my work stopped where the real genius starts, haha. I would make the design, program the static HTML and do some minor scripting, but from that point, a programmer would have to build the rest. And by the rest I mean the database, the dynamic scripts that actually makes things work etc.

Luckily, nowadays I am almost self-sufficient due to the huge collection of open-source tools that are at my disposal. Wheather it’s a website, a webshop or an online survey – there’s a good chance the perfect tool is already out there.
